Manchester Based Fashion Designer Me&Yu Team up With Oxfam
Independent fashion label Me&Yu have signed a deal with Oxfam that with see the Manchester fashion label designing one off pieces for Oxfam to resell. The pieces will be designed using unwanted clothes donated to Oxfam. The items will be sold from Oxfam's shop on Oxford Rd and 50% of the proceeds will go to Oxfam.
Angie Hulme, owner of Me&Yu, said: “The partnership with Oxfam gives shoppers the peace of mind of buying a one-off piece that offers the added benefit of being recycled.”
Me&Yu is based in Affleck’s in the Northern Quarter with their studio being based on Pollard Street Ancoats.
JD Sports Snaps up Shares in JJB
Greater Manchester based firm JD Sports has snapped up 25 million shares in the Wigan Sports retailer JJB Sports. The move cost JD over £8m and takes JD's stake in JJB is now 10.02 percent
JD released this statement "JD has made this strategic investment in JJB because of its important place in the performance sports retail market,"
Manchester Airport Group's Profits Fall
The group that operates Manchester Airport has seen a fall in operating profits in the last 6 months from £71.8m to £68.4m, that's 4.7%. A big drop in passengers travelling from Manchester and airlines such as X.L going bust have all had a big impact.
The group's leader Geoff Muirhead remains upbeat about the situation saying: "Our operating profits represent an excellent performance in a very challenging market. We had a reasonable start to the year but a very poor end to the first half."
